Post 5 - My future job

I would love to work in anything creative. On my career area (cinema) I like the scripting, the editing and the art direction, but is really difficult to get a “big job” on those areas. Also I don’t like the industrial way of production, it works hierarchically and is taken over by a cultural and economic elite. I prefer to work on my personal stuff. Maybe an interesting path to follow could be applicate to state funding. I’m now working with a group of friends on a visual novel called (for now) “Antes todo esto era campo”. It’s about a young person that explores a town where the people believe in myths to explain the phenomena they don’t understand. The characters and events of the game are related to gender ideology and marginalized social groups. I’m not interested in earn a lot of money with my art, but obviously I wouldn’t complain if something like that happens, anyway it isn’t my focus.     When I was a child I used to watch the “Kids section” of the national TV, on there were shows that I loved at the time, like “ Cachureos ”, it was a sort of entertainment contest for kids with so many surrealistic characters who also sing and dance. I liked “The Ra-tim-bum Castle ” as well, a Brazilian show that occurs in a magical castle where a group of kids that lived nearby used to play. Another show that I liked a lot is “ 31 minutos ”, a puppet show that emulate a news TV program. And it was really horrible when suddenly the anime restarted because it reached the end of the dubbing (this was before the internet became a common thing in our lives). There I used to watch shows like Digimon , Slam Dunk, Shaman King or Ranma ½ . I still love (and re-watch sometimes) all o...

He's Raul Ruiz, a Chilean filmmaker that was born in 1941 in Puerto Montt and died in 2011 in Paris. After the military coup in 1973 he moved to France because of his political ideology, leaving a finished but inedited film called Palomita Blanca , that was only released in 1992 when the dictatorship was already over. He directed a lot of films (over 100) and was best known for his experimental, surrealistic and oniric style. Ruiz wrote a book called “Poetics of Cinema” (1995-2007) in which explain his own theories to several factors of the filming art, like the possibility of deviation from the main plot structure, the execution of his poetic quality or the realization of a shamanic cinema. All the ideas he wrote about are portrayed in his films. One of my favorite piece of work from Raul Ruiz is a short video that was made in a cinema workshop in his lasts years, it’s called “Epistolar” and you can find it on youtube. Even after dead Raul Ruiz still released movies. La...
